Luis Bianchi of Miami, Florida was arrested Thursday after he was accused of leaving his three-year-old daughter home alone with miscellaneous weapons, news sources report. Bianchi, 25, was booked into the Miami-Dade County Jail on charges of child neglect. A county Judge set Bianchi's bail bond at $5,000. Reports did not say whether Bianchi obtained legal representation.
According to reports, Bianchi was given custody of the three-year-old girl last year because the mother of the child was having financial difficulties. The Department of Children and Families is investigating the incident and it remains to be seen whether the arrest will affect Bianchi's custody over the girl. A hearing will reportedly occur on Friday to determine who will care for the child as the trial progresses.
Reports say the incident occurred Wednesday evening at Bianchi and the toddler's apartment complex on Southwest 3rd Street in Little Havana. Bianchi has a permit for several AR-15 rifles, sources indicate, and he also keeps a hand grenade and other unspecified weapons on a table in his bedroom. He reportedly blocks off the door to his bedroom with a couch to prevent the child from gaining access to the weapons.
On Wednesday at around 6:00 p.m., Bianchi reportedly called the victim's mother, who was apparently coming to his apartment to watch the girl. When the woman said she would be arriving soon, Bianchi blocked off his bedroom door with the couch, put his daughter in front of the TV, and locked the door behind him so he could head to work, sources say.
