Dillon E. Buik of Miami, Florida was arrested Tuesday after he was accused of drawing a gun on Jacob Davis, also of Miami, news sources indicate. Buik, 20, was booked into the Ottawa County Jail on charges of assault and battery with a deadly weapon with the intent to kill. It is unclear whether he has qualified for bail bond. It is also not yet known whether Buik has hired a lawyer.
Reports say Buik and a man named David Smith had reached a court-mandated agreement over the sale of some property just prior to the incident. Smith and Davis (the victim) are cousins, sources say. It appears that Smith sold Buik something and that the pair later got into a disagreement about undoing the exchange. During the court session, a judge decreed that Smith had one week to repay Buik a sum of money and Buik had the same amount of time to give Smith his property back. Reports were unable to say what that property may have been.
The incident occurred after the court decision, at around 8:00 Tuesday evening outside of a home on the 300 block of D Street Northwest, which may belong to Nicole Blodgett, Smith's mother. Blodgett apparently told police that Buik had gone to her daughter's house in an attempt to collect the money immediately before he headed to the home. It does not appear as though he threatened the daughter, whose name was not given. Sources do not mention whether Smith was involved in the altercation; he was likely not around when it took place.
Buik pulled into the driveway of the D Street Northwest home in a gray Chevy Malibu and demanded his money, reports say. Another man accompanied Buik in the passenger's seat, sources indicate; he has not been identified by name in public reports. Blodgett, who had already heard about the court results from her son, reportedly told Buik that he would not get his money until Smith got his property back.
