Sagy Shachar of Miami, Florida was arrested Wednesday for allegedly punching Patrick Shane Prevatte in the face at a Halloween party in early November, news sources indicate. Prevatte, 40, later died at the Jackson Memorial Hospital as a result of the blow. Shachar, 30, was booked into the Miami-Dade County Jail on one count of second-degree murder. It is not yet known whether her has qualified for bail bond. It is also unclear whether he has hired an attorney.
Reports say the alleged attack occurred at round 1:00 in the morning at Taverna Opa, a bar located off South Miami Avenue. Costumed partygoers, including Phevatte and Shachar, were at the tavern celebrating Halloween at the time. According to Prevatte's mother, Prevatte "had just gotten news of a promotion that day and... was going out to celebrate."
After midnight, reports say that Prevatte and another man (not Shachar) began to argue in the tavern. The argument became physical and Prevatte and the other man reportedly began shoving one another. Shachar, who was dressed in a red devil's mask, allegedly intervened on behalf of the unidentified man and punched Prevatte in the head. Prevatte reportedly slumped to the floor unconscious following the alleged punch and had to be taken to the Jackson Memorial Hospital. Doctors pronounced him dead of his injuries sometime after his arrival.
Police announced after Prevatte's death that they were searching for a suspect who had worn a white hat to the party. However, as the investigation moved forward, police announced that they believed a man in a red devil's mask was actually the culprit. It is not known how police connected Shachar to the incident.
