Tracy Mourning of Miami, Florida was arrested Friday after she was accused of driving recklessly while impaired, press sources report. Mourning, 42, was booked into police custody on charges of driving under the influence. It is unclear whether she qualified for bail. It is also unclear whether she has obtained a defense attorney .
According to reports, Mourning is married to former Miami Heat basketball player Alonzo Mourning, with whom she has three children. In a similar series of events, Alonzo Mourning was arrested in July 2011 when he allegedly fled the scene of an accident, records show. Alonzo was later sued for an unspecified amount due to the crash.
This more recent altercation occurred on Friday. A police officer reportedly spotted Mourning driving her car oddly; according to the officer, Mourning was speeding and failed to come to a complete stop at a red light. The officer pulled Mourning over around the intersection of San Servano Avenue and Old Cutler Road. The officer told Mourning why he pulled her over, and she reportedly winked but did not offer a reason for the violations. The officer said he could smell alcohol on Mourning's breath and had her take a roadside sobriety test, which she failed, reports say.
In other news, Kamiah Lanier of Miami was arrested Thursday after he allegedly shot Evelyn Matomoro in the face during a robbery, according to press sources. Matomoro remained in critical condition at a county hospital following the incident. Lanier, 20, was booked into the Miami-Dade County Jail on one count of use of a firearm during the commission of a felony, one count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, one count of armed robbery with a firearm, and one count of attempted murder. It is unclear whether he qualified for bail or hired legal representation.
According to reports, Lanier has a history of violence. In August 2011, detectives arrested and charged him with attempted armed robbery and aggravated battery on a pregnant woman. Reports say the arrest came after Lanier allegedly assaulted his pregnant girlfriend, beating her to the point that she had a miscarriage.
