Samuel Nicaragua of Miami, Florida was arrested Friday after he was accused of owning digital media that depicted children involved in sexual situations, news sources report. Nicaragua, 48, was booked into the Miami-Dade County Jail on charges of possession of child pornography. He was later released after posting a $7,500 bail bond. It is not yet known whether he has obtained a criminal defense lawyer to represent his case.
According to reports, Nicaragua's girlfriend found a DVD at Nicaragua's home. The girlfriend reportedly found that the disc contained child pornography and handed it over to the Miami-Dade County Police. Officers spoke with Nicaragua and he reportedly admitted that he was the owner of the illicit material. Nicaragua told police that he had the illicit material "to demonstrate to his family that there are bad people in the world doing bad things," reports say.
Reports did not say whether officers attained a search warrant or whether Nicaragua is believed to own any other similar materials. A police investigation appears to be ongoing. Nicaragua's first court appearance is set for Saturday, news reports say.
In other news, Yunielquis Valdespino of Palm Beach County was arrested Wednesday after he tried using fake credit cards to buy more than $2,000 worth of goods, sources report. Valdespino, 28, was booked into the Palm Beach County Jail on charges on three counts of fraud and one count of larceny. A judged ordered that he be held on $28,000 bond. It is not yet known whether Valdespino has hired legal representation.
Valdespino was allegedly searching for a way to supplement his income before the fraud. He purportedly met with an unidentified contact in Miami who offered him some under-the-counter work. According to Valdespino, the contact gave him several credit cards, including a Chase Business MasterCard and a Citi MasterCard. Valdespino took the cards to an Apple Store in the Galleria Mall in Fort Lauderdale and bought two iPads and a pair of Beats headphones, sources say.
After the successful purchase, Valdespino went to another Apple Store in Boca Raton and tried to buys $2,300 worth of items, reports say. However, the Citi MasterCard and Chase Business MasterCard did not go through and the clerk called in the store's loss prevention officer. The officer held onto the cards while he attempted to verify them. Valdespino allegedly gave the employees "attitude" and asked for the credit cards back.
