Dionisio Lockridge of Miami, Florida was arrested Thursday after he was accused of lacing brownies with drugs and distributing them at an area high school, news sources report. Several students who ate the brownies became ill and had to be taken to local hospitals for treatment. Lockridge, 22, was booked into the Miami-Dade County Jail on unspecified drug charges. It is unclear whether he qualified for BB. So far, no defense lawyer has been announced for Lockridge.
According to reports, the incident occurred on Thursday at a Miami-Dade County High school in Westchester. Sources say Lockridge is not a student at the school. The school has not yet commented publicly on the incident, but police are currently conducting an investigation and say additional charges may surface. There may also have been more than one person involved in the crime, sources indicate.
Several students claim that Lockridge approached them at the school and offered them brownies. One student said that, "It was just a male who randomly approached me and said, 'Do you want one?' I found it very suspicious. I was like, I shouldn't take this." That student did not accept the strange brownie; however, as many as nine others did, reports say.
The students who consumed the brownies ended up getting very ill, reports say. Miami-Dade rescue crews rushed the sick students to South Miami Hospital, Miami Children's Hospital, and Kendall Regional Medical Center. "One girl was having a seizure." A medical spokesperson said. "I haven't spoken to her, but hopefully she's doing OK."
Detectives began investigating the incident and tracked the brownies back to Lockridge's home. While searching the home, detectives found a substantial amount of brownies, marijuana, and cocaine. Reports say Lockridge had been lacing the brownies with various drugs, including marijuana and cocaine. Detectives say an investigation is ongoing and other suspects may be arrested later on. "A lot of bad things have been going on at this school lately," a detectives spokesperson said. "I feel like the reputation is just going down."
