Roger Silva Aguilera of Miami, Florida was arrested Wednesday after troopers found a box of marijuana bricks in his truck, news sources report. Aguilera, 44, was booked into jail on charges of possession of marijuana with intent to sell and trafficking marijuana. The press did not specify whether Aguilera has since bailed out of jail or enlisted a criminal defense lawyer.
Reports indicate that the arrest occurred at around 10:00 Wednesday morning on a stretch of I-95/Florida 206 in St. Johns County, Florida. Aguilera was headed to Jacksonville in his Ford F-15 when Florida Highway Patrol officials reportedly pulled him over because his trucks' windows were darker than is allowed by law. The press suggests that Aguilera told the officials where he was headed, but that something made them suspicious.
The troopers got permission from Aguilera to search the vehicle during the traffic stop, sources indicate. During the search, the troopers could apparently smell marijuana. A box sitting in the rear passenger area was soon located and found to contain a big dog food bag, sources indicate. Inside the bag, officials allegedly located 30 compressed bricks of marijuana, worth an estimated $120,000.
Aguilera was arrested after the discovery; it is not clear whether he has been released. Reports do not indicate whether officials are searching for others who may have been involved in the alleged trafficking operation.
As countless people are arrested for trafficking and using marijuana all over the United States, a movement of legalizing marijuana here in the States and abroad continues to progress. According to ProCon.org, 20 states have already legalized marijuana for medical use, including California, Michigan, and Hawaii. Some states, such as Colorado, even allow recreational marijuana use.
