Rolando Angel Bolanos, Former Hialeah, Florida Officer, Arrested for Battery

Rolando Angel Bolanos, a former Hialeah, Florida police officer, was arrested Sunday after he allegedly pushed his ex-wife and took her phone during an argument, news sources report. Bolanos, 41, was booked into the Broward County Main Jail on charges of simple battery, tampering with a witness, and violating his probation. A county judge ordered he be held without bail bond for a probation violation. It is unclear whether Bolanos has hired an attorney.

Bolanos once worked for the Hialeah Police Department in Miami-Dade County, reports say. It is unclear what ended Bolanos's employment with the department. His father was once Hialeah's police chief, but he has since retired. Bolanos' ex-wife, 39-year-old Mayelin Santa Maria, is currently working for the Hialeah Gardens department, sources show.

The alleged assault took place at Maria's home on September 17 of this year. According to reports, Bolanos was at the home when he and Maria began arguing. It is not clear in reports what Bolanos was doing at his ex-wife's home. The press says the dispute eventually escalated and Bolanos shoved Maria to the ground.

Bolanos allegedly confiscated Maria's phone to prevent her from notifying authorities. As Bolanos left Maria's home, he allegedly tossed her phone from his vehicle. Reports did not specify whether the phone was recovered or broken in the fall. It is not clear whether Maria herself sustained injury in the altercation.

Bolanos was apprehended on Sunday, reports indicate. A county judge ordered that Bolanos be held without bail for a previous probation violation, which allegedly involved robbery. The details surrounding the prior case were not immediately available at press time.

Battery is a crime that affects people from all walks of life. A few weeks ago, Lee County resident Ken Wood was arrested after he was accused of assaulting an elderly man for using "his dryer" at an area laundromat, sources report. Wood, 55, was booked into police custody on charges of property damage and battery on a person 65 years or older. It is unclear whether he posted bail or hired legal representation.
